Dr. Marujo earned his Medical Degree in 1981 from the University of São Paulo Medical School. His academic life was marked, from the beginning, by a strong interest and a relentless focus on everything related to structure, forms and shapes that evolved, in the last years of his medical education, into a passionate quest for surgical acumen and clinical excellence.
In the two years that followed his graduation he immersed himself in the Residency Program in General Surgery at the General Hospital of Ribeirão Preto. After completing his Residency training, he was already recognized by his peers as having an unusually sharp sense of aesthetic and an attention to detail and a surgical ability that already set him out of the ordinary and led to a very natural choice for Plastic Surgery.
He then moved to the Hospital dos Defeitos da Face, a center of excellence in Plastic Surgery in São Paulo, Brazil, where he initiated his training in Plastic Surgery. During this time, besides his passion for aesthetic surgery he also developed a strong interest in Burn Patients and Facial Trauma, areas in which he eventually became a reference in Brazil.
In 1987 he went to the Unites States to observe first-hand the recent advancements in Epithelium Culture and Skin Bank Management at the Shrinnes Burn Institute (Professor John Burke`s Service) of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Currently, besides the reputation he earned, in Brazil and abroad, as one of the most prominent and talented Plastic Surgeons of our time, he is a founding member of the Brazilian Society for Burn Injuries and the Latin American Federation for Burns (FELAQ), member of the International Society for Burn Injuries and also a member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery as well as its director for the São Paulo Chapter.
